What is HIIT cardio? By now you've probably heard of "HIIT" - high intensity interval training which is timed short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by short periods of low intensity or rest. The benefits are many including:
burning a lot of calories in a short amount of time
metabolic rate increases for hours after your workout
gain muscle and lose fat
reduces blood pressure and heart rate
And so much more! Since you can pack a lot into 15-30 minutes, these routines have become a staple in my training.
With travel picking back up one of the easiest portable workout tools you can take anywhere is the agility ladder. I got a relatively inexpensive one from amazon for about $13 and it's a favorite of mine and my clients. It really adds some fun variety and a new challenge to HIIT. I'm adding a couple videos of my workouts. In the above I'm doing "high knees" for 4 sets - a set being once back and forth.
I follow that with "burpees" for 4 sets - again once back and forth each time. These are killer and really get your heart rate going.
Next are "jumping lunges" for 4 sets. This routine is strengthens your core and legs, improves bone density and is a real calorie burner.
If you want to really PUSH YOURSELF try a super set! Super sets are combining each exercise and reps without a break! So...four sets of high knees, burpees, and side lunges before resting. Try and agility ladder and add some variety to your HIIT workout! You can do it!
